This place looks a little different. A little bit different than the place before and a little bit different from the place before that.
What the heck happened? Well, not that much. I was given a wonderful opportunity to do my blog for WBEZ, Chicago Public Radio for a couple of years. Having been a longtime fan and listener of BEZ (home of This American Life, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! and Sound Opinions), I was thrilled to be on their team.
The internet is a changey thing, which is what I love/hate about it. BEZ is switching things up in the blog department which means, as my friend Fuzzy put it, I was not fired by WBEZ but hired by Zulkey.com.
Since I was hired by BEZ a few things have changed. I had a kid, so I blog about him sometimes (but just like with any topic I like, not exclusively.) I got a new job at the University of Chicago where I actually write and edit things I like, which is a revelation (but also demands more attention.) And the blog got a facelift, partially so I can step into the current decade, partially to make myself feel slightly better about the tiny ego blow that comes from getting paid for something you used to do for free only to return to doing it for free. Sure, my boyfriend and I are no longer together, but look how fabulous my new outfit is!
Do you like how I'm writing this post as if you have been frozen in time since I last blogged here under my own auspices and are only now reading me, two years later?
Going back over the last twelve (twelve!) years of posts as I updated the site, I laughed and cringed over the way I used to write, the things I used to post, the experiments I tried and the topics that have come and gone. I feel a little bad that I think I'm slightly more serious now than I was then. I feel a little bit good about the fact that I think I'm a slightly better writer. I am amazed too by the people who were just friends who crossed my site's path back then, people like Will Leitch, AJ Daulerio, Wendy McClure and especially Steve Delahoyde who have made a huge impact on the internet, and in Steve's case my own personal life. What a funny thing. Â
Anyway, chances are you know all this stuff already. I'm excited to be back on my own terms. I used to publish five days a week but with all that's been going on I don't want to promise more than three. That's not to say I won't deliver five sometimes but when I do it will just be a wondrous surprise for us all.

Thanks--as always--for reading. Sometimes I will have comments on, sometimes I will have them off, but regardless, I'm not hard to get ahold of, so, please, be in touch.
