Today is the day to remember Mama Cass..
In Lieu of an Interview, an Interview and a Film, by Guest Diarist Steve Delahoyde
Hello. It's me again, Steve Delahoyde. Not to worry, even though it's usually the case when I appear here, Claire's not sick again. She just didn't have an interview completed for today ("A lot of them out there," she says, "but they just haven't sent them back in yet."). So she came to me, asking if I had anything to offer up. I looked through my bag o' things, and happened to find this, a newly made little short film/documentary, to be viewed in Quicktime or Realplayer.
Post-Film Q & A Discussion with Filmmaker Steve Delahoyde:
Q: In this documentary we've just seen, I kept thinking, "This would be easy for him to fake, because that would just be awful, trying a stunt like that." Did you really go through with it all? A: I did. I realized before I did it that I could just edit in the music in later and put it on top of some footage of me driving, but I actually wanted to try it, to see how it might affect me, or just to see if I could really go through with it. Q: So a test of endurance? A: Yeah. Just a weird test. Q: Why ABBA? A: I wanted to pick something that has some comedic value and seems kind of poppy and annoying when you say its name. But I also wanted to pick something that wasn't overtly awful, something that I could actually listen to and have been known to enjoy from time to time. Q: In the film, we see you rubbing your eyes a lot and looking pretty frustrated. How bad was it really? A: To be honest, I cut the film down to three minutes from what it was at originally, which was ten minutes, out of about an hour and a half worth of material. In the longer stuff, I talked to the camera a lot, and explained that it just became background noise pretty quickly, and then only time I ever really noticed it, and was bothered, was when I was in traffic. But in editing, I realized that I looked pretty bad throughout, like I was having a rough time, so maybe it was hurting me, but I just wasn't taking too much note of it. I guess the body helps keep you away from harm in that way. Q: Are you happy you tried it? A: I suppose. Q: Any more stunts coming up in the near future? A: I think this will be my first and my last. Q: Here's five dollars. A: Thank you. Q: You're welcome.
