Claire's Awesome Super Bowl Pix

Most of you may know me as more of a baseball fan than a football fan, but I truth be told, I fancy myself something of an oracle when it comes to predicting game outcomes. I knew all along, for instance, that the Chicago Bears would not beat the Green Bay Packers this season. Call it a gift, I don't know. So let me do the damn thing and break it down for you:

Patriots:

Pros: Cute uniforms. I went to college on the East Coast. Which isn't exactly New England but is close enough.

Cons: Annoying nickname of "Pats," which is should technically be pronounced with the same hard "a" as "Patriot" but instead is pronounced like the shortened nickname of "Patrick." What's with that? Also, the East Coast, at least in my mind, wins way too much stuff, or has too many good teams and should relinquish this to other areas of the country, say, the Midwest. They also won the Super Bowl in 2002, which means it's not their turn. Finally, during the commentary of the 2002 Super Bowl, Paul McCartney made the rationalization that because of the horrific events of September 11, it would be nice if a team called the Patriots would win, which basically makes me seem, prognosticating-wise, like a goddamned genius. Yes, by the way, this all counts as a negative against the New England Patriots.

Panthers:

Pros: Haven't won a Super Bowl yet. My brother went to college in North Carolina.

Cons: The I-don't-care-about-them factor. The dorky expansion team name (they always seem like they have to pick the bad leftover names.) The annoying name (the Patriots are guilty of this as well) of covering more than one state or city at a time. (Notice it's not the North or South Carolina Panthers.)

The Numbers

3:2 odds on Carolina, assuming that that ratio makes sense, which it probably does not.

Are you ready for some football?
