Book By Its Cover Review: Running a Website Dedicated Only to Cute Pictures of Animals
I've been in to cute animals lately. I know, I know. What kind of strange interest is that? Who could possibly find cute animals interesting? Hopefully this is only a "phase," but yesterday I found myself looking at two sites, this one for kitties and this one for dogs dressed as other animals. This one is also another favorite, along with this and this. Technically I don't think there is anything really wrong with looking at baby animals instead of working, but stop me once I start purchasing kittie sweatshirts and the like.
It might not be the most dignified profession in the world. "What do you do for a living?" a snooty woman asks a fellow at a cocktail party. "Oh, I collect pictures of baby animals and put them on a website," he says. "Well, I never!" she exclaims and stomps off after dropping her monocle into her champagne glass. He is ashamed. He knows he does not contribute to the world like those other great blogs of yore.
But I think there is something quite appealing about that job. For one, you don't have to worry about being 'timely' about whether Britney Spears had her baby or about some hurricane or something. You just have one true task at hand, and that is focusing on the time-honored tradition of bringing cuteness, embarrassed pets and animals dressed as other animals to the forefront of the global mind.
I know it's appealing to me. Instead of me having to type all this garbage, instead I could just post for the day:
That's so much easier! And I bet that is more enjoyable to everyone. So hats off to you, cute animal website proprietor. You may not be understood, but you bring happiness to so many.
