Today is the day to pick your friend's nose.
Go Bears!
I always feel slightly guilty when I ask somebody that I just met, "What do you do?" Because people always point it out as this horrible Americanism, so obsessed with occupation and money and status and whatnot.
That's so stupid.
Asking somebody what they do (at least from my perspective), is not trying to get a bead on who's better and who's best and who makes more money than who, it's about learning about people. I mean, if I ask somebody what they do and they say that they're a lion tamer, then geez! We have a lot to talk about. I would be asking about whip usage and if they lions are drugged and whatnot, not if that person has a 401(k) and how much a year they make.
This is my September 11 anniversary defense of America; we're just inquisitive, not pushy and nosy. Pretty patriotic, don't you think?
If you find that too flippant, you can read my more serious opinions on the anniversary of September 11 on Flak.
