Even though now I can (and often do) work from home in my exercise clothes, I still crave a little bit of order to my week. Unless I'm on deadline and have to prioritize all the research/interviewing/writing that comes with said deadline, this is how I like to try to organize my week. I try to do it inverted-pyramid style, so that the most important stuff comes first and then I can do more brainless stuff later in the week. Thanks to advice I got from Laura Vanderkam, I'm also trying to save Fridays for recharging my brain for the week to come, so instead of errands and paperwork I aim to read and organize my ideas.
Monday:
Writing--
- My novel (I try to do this every day but a little bit extra today)
- Stories/essays in progress
- First drafts of things due that week
- Maybe something brand-new
- Maybe tinkering with something old I found
Tuesday:
Pitching--
- Send a new pitch
- Follow up on an old pitch
- Work an old idea into a new pitch
- Track progress of pitches
Wednesday:
People--
- Reach out to people/places who might know of some leads
- Interviews
Thursday:
Admin--
- Follow up on invoices
- Go through my catchall file to pay bills/answer things/order things
- Anything that involves looking at my calendar/setting up dates and appointments
Friday:
Read and recharge--
- Organize my clips and photos
- Read long articles I've bookmarked throughout the week
- Streamline my files
