A few years ago I wrote a little squib for the AV Club about how and why Aimee Mann is my preferred artist to listen to when I'm trying to relax on an airplane. This still holds true: I was listening to her Sunday evening as we descended to O'Hare. I don't know why but her sadder, more wistful tunes are exactly what I need to get into a specific happy-sad state, a blissful melancholy that helps me settle down, even in turbulence.
