I DJ'ed at Dance Dance Party Party last night and we all worked up a sweat. If you need some new workout music, here you go!
Röyksopp - Happy Up Here. I kick my runs off with this song: I like how it's bouncy but a little bit dark. This is a nerdy thing to admit but I imagine if I ever had a podcast, I would like this to be my theme song.
Mason vs. Princess Superstar - Perfect (Exceeder). I grabbed this off the playlist that someone in my boot camp class played last week. I wanted to add something I didn't know that well to mix things up a little bit. This is definitely going on my general workout rotation.
Whoomp There It Is - Tag Team. This takes me back to old school Michael Jordan-era Bulls games, which were definitely some of the most fun, triumphant moments of my young life.
Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy. I heard this song the other day and deemed it was time to bring it back into my life. I watch way too much "RuPaul's Drag Race" not to own this song. As my husband said, he likes this song because it was one of the first examples he'd ever heard of pop music being funny. Also, it has the best ending.
Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer. One of the best music videos of all time and an unexpectedly good workout song.
Long Cool Woman - The Hollies. I confess I wish I had placed this lower in the playlist because I like to mix up faster and slower songs. But still a cool song. When I run it always brings me down to a nice tempo.
Shakira - She Wolf. This song is so silly. It has both the words "lycanthropy" and "awoo!" in the lyrics.
Thunderheist- Jerk It. Another new one to me. Thunderheist, with its tough-girl singing and dancey beat, is a natural fit for DDPP: just check out "Sweet 16."
Santigold - Go (feat. Karen O): I like this for pretending that I'm a soldier in Santigold's funky army.
Kid Sister - Right Hand Hi. Where you from? South Side!
Electric Light Orchestra - Don't Bring Me Down. Sometimes I think this is the best blues-rock song ever made.
The Kills - Sour Cherry. One more new one. It's unusual and funky and I'm glad I added it.
Katy Perry - Roar. I didn't include this on a playlist for awhile because I was worried it's too slow but the ladies at DDPP never seem to mind a triumphant lady song. Also, I am working on a post about music videos that both the baby and I can agree on and I have to warn you now that it includes about a thousand Katy Perry songs.
Ke$ha - Blow: I wish this song was around in previously-mentioned old school Bulls games because this would have been perfect for it. This song was originally supposed to be Jason Derulo's "The Other Side" but I made a last-minute switch (there's too much downtime in that song) and it was a success.
They Might Be Giants - Particle Man. I wanted to include a silly palate-cleanser and thought maybe the polka beat would be fun. And if it sucked, hey, it's only two minutes long.
Britney Spears - Work B**ch. Like with most Britney songs, the first time I heard this I thought, "What a stupid song" and then eventually not only did I come to like it, I actually find it very motivating.
Laura Branigan - Self Control. Weird video, great cooldown song.
