If you're contemplating marrying a man less educated than you are, here are some suggestions on how to make the relationship work.

  • Spell out words that will get him excited (like "ice cream.")

  • If he is restless and won't leave you alone, try placing a colorful piece of painter's tape on his hands. That will occupy him for a good 45 minutes.

  • Tell him he did a good job on anything he does, even if it wasn't good and it wasn't technically a job or really anything at all. It's important for these guys to feel valuable.

  • If you're going to a graduate school reunion, consider leaving your spouse at home or, if you bring him along, take an iPad so he has something to do while you talk to your smart friends. (Don't forget a snack, too.)

  • Let him order for himself at restaurants. Unless you are at a very fancy restaurant, most waitstaff are accustomed to having less-educated husbands in their restaurants.

  • Give him simple tasks to do that will make him feel useful and raise his self esteem, like sorting legos by color or folding napkins.

  • No matter how busy you are with your work and your academic research, make sure you do the laundry and clean and cook dinner because your husband is probably too stupid to do it correctly.Â
