Book By Its Cover Review: Having Your Husband Sing Songs about Murdering You

I'm not happy to say that I was actually upset about the breakup of Nicole Richie and her fiancee, but some news did warm my heart: Eminem has reunited once again with his wife Kim Mathers. If you are not familiar with their relationship per se, you are certainly familiar with Eminem's attitude towards his wife in his songs. For instance, there's one simply called "Kim" where he discusses killing her. Or, in the song "What's the Difference," Dr. Dre raps "Well if you ever kill that Kim bitch, I'll show you where the ocean is."

These are just a sampling.

I was talking to some of my friends about this reunion, and while some of them are shocked that a woman would get back with a man filled with such hatred for her, I argue how you could not get back together with a man who at least felt that passionately about you.

How many wives of musicians have songs written explicitly about them? Most of these songs are fairly ambiguous, so that their female fans can imagine that they're also being sung about. Eminem, while sometimes discussing murdering women in general, really focuses on Kim, and doesn't care if it alienates his female fan base.

Meanwhile, I'd be rather impressed by just how much I meant to my husband if he took the time to write, produce and release more than one track about his fantasies of my own death. Say what you will but that means you're really on his mind. You've really gotten 'in there.'

Sure, passionate love songs would be preferable to passionate killing songs. But being the wife of a singer who writes no songs about you is still worse than one who completely neglects you on his albums.

Also, it's rare to see in celebrity two people who just gravitate towards each other, despite the threats of murder, the arrests and the suicide attempts. In its own extremely messed up way, it's sweet. I think this is what soul mates from Detroit looks like.
