Today is the day to snitch on somebody.

Book By Its Cover Review: Back to School

Sure, I've been back to school before. It was only four years ago that I was a wee college student, myself. And in fact, I am in grad school, so the actual phrase "back to school" does apply to me. But never again will I know the feeling of heading back to the classroom after summertime. (Unless I become a teacher but I don't think I can handle the criticism that comes with 'How come celebrities are paid so little while teachers' salaries are so inflated?")

Yes, I work, every day. Unlike students, I don't get to leave school at 3:45. But also unlike students, I don't have to be at work at 8:00 AM. On the one hand, four days of the week I'm not really encouraged to wear jeans to work, but, unlike students, I get paid to be where I am. This money I am free to use to rent fancy cars, buy candy or fireworks, go to dirty movies, buy cigarettes and booze, gamble, you name it. Also, when I am done with work I go home and watch TV or maybe go out. I don't go home and do homework.

At work, I have to interact with a handful of different people of varying levels of pleasantness. However, at work I do have an office with a door and am not subjected to spending my time in a stuffy room with 30 of my pimply, obnoxious peers. I also have a radio.

I do like school supplies. And so I steal them from the office supply cabinet, as opposed to going to spend money on them at Target. And while I am free to participate in work's extra-curricular activities like the knitting club or the company picnic, not doing so will not prevent me from going to a good college.

So, I give going back to school a lukewarm rating. While working is not a treat, it's much better than going to school, because I'm an adult and can do what I want with my free time (that even includes not cleaning my apartment if I want to, or eating lots of ice cream), as opposed to spending my free time on school work and with school friends.

As far as I'm concerned, summer doesn't end with Labor Day, or even the day after. It's the first day that it's too cold to wear sandals. Oh, and if I don't go to work, I don't have to have my parents call in (usually.)

If you are unlike me and wish you were back in school and not at work, perhaps it will make you feel better to print this out and share it with a schoolkid, afterwards throwing it on the ground and making him/her pick it up and throw it away, just because you say so.
