I have another story in the Chicago Tribune's WomanNews section today.
Rank: Teams in the MLB Playoffs
-
The Florida Marlins. This is the only team I have no beef with. Besides, they're underdogs, they're scrappy. I like that. Go fish! Downside: I'm not from Florida and I know virtually nothing about this team.
-
The Boston Red Sox. I empathize with their fans' frustrations, and I'm a White Sox fan, so there's that Sox-Sox thing going on. Also, Todd Walker plays for them. Many years ago, I went to an Orioles/Twins game. I had no real allegiance to either team, so I pledged to root for the leadoff hitter. Mr. Walker hit a double to start the game and I have been halfheartedly following his career ever since. Go Todd! Downside: The Red Sox are a lot like the Yankees, only without all the World Series titles. I.e., they win a lot and their fans are cocky.
-
The New York Yankees. I recently made the allusion that if the rest of MLB was the UN, the Yankees are America. America is powerful and rich and usually successful. Downside: Everybody also hates America because it's cocky and gets what its wants a lot by throwing money around. They've had enough World Series wins, and just because they haven't won one in a few seasons means they deserve to again.
-
The Chicago Cubs. They're from Chicago. Downside: I am a White Sox fan through and through, and unfortunately, while I know it makes me look like a miserable, petty human being, any success they find plunges a shiv of pain into my heart. Also, I live near Wrigley Field and I'm sick of the traffic and helicopters near the stadium.
